Settling Your Child In...

If you are considering coming in to have a look around you may be wondering what our procedure is for new starters. Well, we don't have set rule. Each and every child is different and some children come in, get stuck in and don't notice whether mum/dad/carer is around or not. However some children take longer to get used to their surroundings with you there with them. We can help and support both parent/carer and child to settle in and encourage you to stay for however long that it takes until you and your child are comfortable. We offer all new families one free 'taster morning' with us; This gives your child chance to explore and get used to us and also is a really good opportunity for you to meet the staff, the other children and have a good look around our setting.

Your Childs Key Person

Once enroled at pre school, your child will be assigned a Key Person and a team (Blue, Red, Yellow or Green). Your Key Person will make regular observations of all of the exciting things your child has been doing and put these in your childs folder which is always available for you to look at, take home to look through with your child and add to. You are welcome, and we encourage you, to speak to your child's key person any time you wish. Home Learning Story sheets are available at the back of your childs folder for you to record anything your child is particularly enjoying at  home.

Involving Parents and Carers

Research shows that children benefit when parents and carers work in partnership with settings. We actively encourage this partnership and once your child is setled you are welcome to come along to pre school and 'stay and play' with the children.  Along with this we encourage parents to accompany the children on outings and of course to help the children by supporting them at fundraising events such as the Christmas fair and the Summer Leavers Events. Any parental involvement is welcomed and very much appreciated.

In 2014 the committee felt very strongly about the introduction of a uniform. This gives the children a sense of belonging, is practical and easy for the children to put on and off and helps with the transition to school. Please see next page for further details

Wheatcroft Pre School Playgroup has a full range of policies, copies of which are available on the tab on the left. Should you wish to have a paper copy of any policy please speak to the Pre school Manager.

Transition to School

We have a comprehensive transition process between both St Martins and Wheatcroft Primary schools. However, children going on to other schools are also fully supported.
